Qualification details:

These qualifications are suitable for those individuals working in or looking to work in assessment and internal quality assurance and wishing to gain a recognised assessor qualification.

The Level 3 Award and Certificate qualifications provided the learner with an in depth understanding of assessment which can then be applied to assessing either vocationally related achievement or occupational competence in the workplace depending on their chosen field.

Candidates will select the units and qualifications that best meet their requirements depending on what areas that they wish to assess.

  • Level 3 Award in Understanding the Principles & Practices of Assessment (QCF) 
  • Level 3 Award in Assessing Occupational Achievement (QCF)
  • Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocational Achievement (QCF)
  • Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (QCF)


Units covered:

Unit 301: Level 3 Award in Understanding the Principles & Practices of Assessment

A single unit, knowledge only Award for those who need to know about assessment but who are currently not practicing.

Unit 302: Level 3 Award in Assessing Occupational Competence in the Work Environment

A two unit Award for practitioners who assess occupational competency in the workplace.

Unit 303: Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement

A two unit Award for practitioners who assess skills, knowledge and understanding during training.

Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement

A three unit Certificate (comprising of the above three Awards) for practitioners who need to be qualified to assess in the workplace or during training.

Entry requirements:

No specific entry requirements but a good level of literacy and numeracy are required.

Delivery methods & course duration:

The City & Guilds Level 3 Award and Certificate in Assessing (QCF) is delivered as a classroom and work environment observation based package.

The course consists of 1 initial classroom based day plus 4 observations in the candidates own work environment (depending on the units chosen).

0800 – 1630 hrs.
